What is the DEC integrated behavioral system?

The DEC integrated behavioral system is an innovative electronic tool developed by Behavioral Healthcare Providers (BHP) to enhance the assessment and referral process for patients who are experiencing a behavioral crisis.  This system allows mental health professionals to perform a crisis assessment, immediately access the care patient’s need and electronically coordinate care with all health care providers applicable.

The sites that utilize the DEC integrated behavioral services are able to provide crisis mental health services to assist patients in identifying the appropriate level of care for patients, reduce unnecessary admissions, and advance electronic coordination of clinical information.

The DEC integrated behavioral system is a secure web-based tool designed to collect and store clinical information that can be accessed by outpatient providers, inpatient facilities, partial hospitalization programs, and day treatment programs via the web. Practitioners at all levels will have immediate access to clinical information, being sensitive to confidentiality needs and as allowed by law.

Utilizing the DEC integrated behavioral system also allows sites to electronically schedule patients into necessary behavioral services so patients are connected to ongoing services immediately following a crisis.  Immediate access to appropriate follow up care reduces unnecessary hospital admissions. This system was designed to help patients avoid another crisis in the future which ultimately increases patient safety and decreases liability for the sites that use it.
